Meh.īut you could try going to the Tools menu and selecting "Templates and Add-Ins" and seeing what template you have selected there. Basically rule out everything but Word before trying to see if Word is the problem. MS has a "troubleshooting word" knowledgeable article that calls for starting up in safe mode, checking disks, etc. I have added additional section breaks before the unwanted skip and all that happened was that the the section numbers then skipped from 2 to 4, or 5 to7 or whatever. In fact sometimes only the first character in the document was in section one, the second character on was in section three. I have back-space deleted from a point past the skip and again all that happened was that, after I deleted all the text from that point to the beginning of the document, the break just moved down. I have deleted from the beginning of the document past the unwanted section skip and again the unwanted section breaks(s) just moved further down into the text. I have deleted all the text up to where the erroneous section skip is occurring and all that happened was that the unwanted section skip moved further down in the text. Didn't help, same result as manually deleting. I have used find-and-replace to delete all section breaks. Didn't help: the document still skipped from section one to section three at some seemingly random point. I have manually deleted all section breaks.
What is happening is that no matter what the section before the problem is, the document skips from that number to that number plus two all by itself without any visible or findable section breaks. I have tried everything that I can think of to get rid of it. Help! I am in the process of preparing a document for publication and for reasons that I do not understand the document, which was divided into sections as required, had "grown" a new section that I cannot see, cannot get rid of, and is making a complete mess of the formatting.
